A first-time MDW must attend the one-day Settling-in Programme within seven days of arrival, excluding Sundays and public holidays, and before starting work. It covers safety, employment conditions, adapting to Singapore and managing stress.
When you arrive
Rest after travel, keep your passport and employment information safe, ask questions when instructions are unclear and attend the required SIP in your native language. See the current MOM SIP information.
Learn the household gradually
Every family has different routines. Ask your employer to demonstrate appliances, childcare or eldercare routines, cleaning products, food preferences and emergency procedures. Repeat instructions back if you are unsure.
Know the agreed terms
Keep a copy of your IPA and employment agreement. Understand your salary, rest days, compensation arrangements and job scope. Never lend your ATM card, SIM card or bank account to another person.
